This workshop will be 3 hours with National level gymnast instructor David Bernard-Blanchett. He will individually take you to a whole new level with ease.

David-Bernard Blanchet, est avant tout metteur en scène, chorégraphe et formateur en art de la scène. Artiste à l’esprit multidisciplinaire et très polyvalent, son attrait marqué pour la danse et le théâtre, combiné aux approches physiques et au langage du corps l’ont mené très rapidement dans son parcours vers les arts du cirque. Il a approfondit ses connaissances artistiques par un baccalauréat en théâtre à l’UQAM, des études à l’École Nationale de Cirque et diverses formations en jeu physique, en danse et à travers les arts martiaux. Actuellement, avec plus de vingt ans d’expériences avec la scène, ayant été athlète et surtout entraîneur en gymnastique acrobatique jusqu’au niveau national, il est également interprète. En 1998, il a fondé L’Exagère, sa compagnie de spectacles acrobatiques. Depuis, il y explore les croisements possibles entre les disciplines scéniques au sens large, pour ainsi y développer de nouveaux modes d’expression pour joindre le public. Aujourd’hui, par ses créations et ses recherches, il se spécialise dans le domaine des portés et du main à main comme vocabulaire chorégraphique et dramatique.

“That little voice inside that yearns to express itself and we tell ourselves “WOOHOO I EXIST! I’m a human being with emotions and I have something to say.”

That is the foundation and discovery of our inner clown. We don’t pick our clown, we allow it to take its place in oneself and come to life. The actor gives themself permission to laugh and that is where the audience makes a connection and identifies with the clown thus creating comedy. Clowning is a revealing of the self, the humility to listen and be generous. It is in a confident, respectful environment that the clown can point to his nose with a sincere honesty.

To be in the “NOW” is essential for clowning. He must always remember that what hides behind his eyes is merely a game and the most amusing of all games. With the right amount of distance and strong measures, the clown is able to toy with his emotions without attachment. Like a child, he can be triggered by sadness but with a passing of a butterfly, the emotion lifts and makes room for the next experience.

In this workshop, the goal isn’t to try and make people laugh, nor create pre-determined senarios. It is simply designed to discover life in the moment and to find complicity with the audience eye to eye.

Elise Deguire was immediately touched by the art of clown. She actively participates in global projects with Clown Without Borders(HAITI), Art De Caille(MEXICO), Cirque Du Soleil(NEW YORK). In 2007 she created “The Cooking Show” a burlesque street performance incorporating clowning. She has participated in various street festivals in France.

Her training includes workshops and schooling taught by Don Reider, Francine Cote, Dynamo Theatre, and Rene Bazinet. She attended L’Ecole du Samovar in Paris and was chosen by the National Institute of arts and music in France to partake in a clown performance. Following this workshop, Elise will be returning to France to continue her studies in clowning
